September 2018

(From Teresa)

A successful 4th Club Championship saw 94 competitors compete over 14 different track and field events including, for the first time, discus thanks to our now netted throwing cage.

Our championships started with a Thursday night 3k followed by a 5k which I’m told is the highlight of the year for our adult tracksters. The following Thursday it was the much shorter 200m then a discus competition which continued well into the night.  The remainder of the club championships were held over 2days at the weekend giving a much shorter, action packed event.  Number of entries was very promising and stretched our dedicated team of officials to their limit but nothing they couldn’t handle.  The weekend started with a demonstration of hurdles and many different techniques were on display – well done to those who stepped up to the challenge.  54 championship records were equaled, broken or set.  These can be viewed along with all the results on our website.

As the outdoor track and field season comes to a close we can look ahead to the start of the xc season.  Please see Cheryl (Finley’s mum) or John Robertson if you are interested in being part of xc this year.  If you prefer the warmth of indoors then Aberdeen are hosting some open graded meetings on the following dates 16th Dec, Sun 20th Jan, Sun 24th Feb and Sun 17th March.  Event details have still to be confirmed but will include hurdles, 60m, shot putt, long jump and high jump.

For our younger athletes the u12 Indoor Superteams are being held in the Emirates Arena in Glasgow and is the ideal event for anyone starting out in competition.  If you are interested in being part of the team please let Teresa know by 30th October. Training will take place on Fridays starting 2nd Nov.

Our own 10k takes place on Sunday 11th November 2018 and your help is required to make this a success.  If you are available to marshall on the day, hand out finishers medals, donate raffle prizes, bake or serve teas/coffees then please let Linda or Andy know.
